THE Senate on Monday unanimously voted to adopt the report of the Senate Committee on Executive Appointments and Government Investigations, confirming the appointment of former Sen. Sixto K. Igisomar as secretary of the Department of Public Lands.

Igisomar, who previously served as DPL secretary in May 2021, was appointed by Gov. Arnold I. Palacios in April 2025.

The EAGI committee chair, Sen. Frank Q. Cruz, reported that during public hearings held on Saipan, Tinian, and Rota, members of the community raised various issues and recommendations for Igisomar to address once confirmed.

Cruz said all required documents related to Igisomar’s appointment had been submitted to the committee. Based on those documents and public testimonies, the committee supports the former senator’s confirmation as DPL secretary.

Cruz respectfully asked his fellow senators to support Igisomar’s confirmation.

Before the Senate’s roll call vote, Office of the Governor Communications and Policy Advisor John Oliver “Bolis” Gonzales — speaking in his capacity as acting special assistant for administration — reiterated the administration’s request for support.

“Your action is a critical step forthwith, as the administration diligently searches for and finalizes the vacancies of other boards and commissions in order to ensure that the essential basic functions of government operations — and thus, public services — are uninterrupted to optimize optimal benefits for all,” Gonzales said.
