SENATE President Edith Deleon Guerrero supports the Office of Grants Management and State Clearinghouse’s “Solar for All” grant submission to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Two months ago, the Biden-Harris administration launched the $7 billion Solar for All grant competition to fund residential solar programs that will lower energy costs for families and advance “environmental justice through the Investing in America agenda.”

The grant is funded by President Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act.

In her letter to U.S. EPA Administrator Michael S. Regan, Deleon Guerrero said the grant will address the financial and non-financial difficulties that limit the ability and opportunities of low-income and disadvantaged communities to tap “the beneficial growth of distributed solar capacity.”

“It is my understanding that the residential distributed solar energy ultimately reduces the costs of energy for households while also decreasing pollution from power generation and generating wealth and employment for local communities. Additionally, it is evident that there are numerous disadvantaged households that are overlooked pertaining to residential distributed solar generation,” Deleon Guerrero said.

She said she firmly believes that the CNMI stands to benefit from this funding opportunity, adding that the Commonwealth and its people have and still are enduring the harsh after-effects of natural disasters.

She said she also extends her “utmost appreciation to the U.S. EPA and its efforts to safeguard the environment through efforts to promote renewable energy.”
