CUC deputy executive director Alan W. Fletcher has urged public to avoid any fishing, swimming, wading and other water contact recreation in the area.
“While unconfirmed, we believe the discharge may present a temporary risk to public health because of harmful organisms found in wastewater,” he said.
CUC is now undergoing repair to the failure in the sewerage conveyance, he said.
Fletcher said that their crews have worked on-site throughout the weekend to repair problems.
A force-main repair was completed on Saturday, with no additional overflows, he added.
He said that subsequently, two pumping stations clogged and there is sewage overflow in the areas south of Pacific Islands Club.
“Crews continue to make repairs and remediate any overflows,” he said.
Due to this failure, he said there’s untreated wastewater entering the water in the areas of Agingan Point.
The CUC laboratory has performed marine water samples in the affected areas and test results are due today, he said.
