Aric Bickel of DEQ yesterday said the students are summer interns who will soon go to college.
“We’ll be out there from 8 to 10 a.m. to plant shrubs and trees around the area toward the water tank,” Bickel said.
Today’s revegetation project is just one of the activities that the interns are participating in.
“We have a line-up of activities the summer interns are engaged in during their three-week internship program,” Bickel said.
The group will be meeting at the new CRM office on Middle Road around 7:30 a.m. and proceed to Laolao Bay, he said.
DEQ, Coastal Resource Management and other agencies have been initiating various revegetation programs in the CNMI.
Bickel said DEQ will also address coral bleaching in the next couple of weeks.
“We are planning on holding a brief workshop with the media soon to inform everyone on what is going on, as we are expecting some very high water temperature weeks coming up in the fall and we want people to be aware of,” Bickel said.
