Summer youth camp registration extended

Vivian Sablan, DYS overall parent leadership committee chairwoman, said the summer camp will run until Aug. 21.

The camp is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. every day.

This week’s schedule will cover various sports activities, including canoeing and swimming which were not included in the Kagman summer camp.

On Monday and Tuesday next week, Sablan said the participants will be working on arts and crafts. On Wednesday and Thursday, they will be going on fieldtrips to different places, including the Commonwealth Ports Authority airport facilities. The participants will be holding presentations and programs on Friday.

Sablan said the big day will be on Aug. 21 which is the culmination of the summer camp.

“We have designed it to be a family fun day so parents and families of the participants can join us in a day of fun, games and activities,” Sablan said.

There will be a puppet show courtesy of Grace Christian Academy students.

Sablan said  participants and volunteers will also be given t-shirts and certificates.

There was a very low turnout of participants at the first summer youth leadership camp in Kagman which ran from July 26 to  Aug. 7.

Sablan said only 27 participants completed the summer camp.

“We did not expect a large number for the first summer camp in Kagman although we distributed invitations and application forms because that was really intended for the kids in Kagman, but the turnout for the second camp is overwhelming,” Sablan said.

On Aug. 21, she said  DYS will give recognition to over 20 youth leaders people who have showed exemplified commendable leadership qualities.

She said they are still finalizing the details regarding the nominees whose names were submitted by 12 schools and youth organizations.
