KOROR (Palau Horizon) — Starting on April 9, Palau will be showcased in Japan as the Japanese version of the “Survivor” begins its telecast.
Hiromi Goto, coordinator for the “Survivor” series, said Palau will have its chance to be known not only as a diving spot but as a tourist destination with a rich culture.
She said the show is expected to gain a wide audience. The TV show will be aired on TBS’s 28 stations in Japan with about 50 million viewership.
The television show will be aired every Tuesday for one hour.
She said the 20-minute digest version will highlight Palau’s beauty.
Goto said Palau’s culture, people and beautiful places will be featured.
Goto said the producer of the show chose Palau because “it’s perfect for the TV show’s setting.”
Okinawa and Thailand were also considered, but Okinawa’s weather in March is too cold, while Thailand’s jungle may not be conducive for filming, Goto said.
Palau will not only benefit from the publicity but also from the indirect employment of about 30 locals to help the production staff, she added.
The TV show will be filmed mostly on Ngemelis Island, but also in Peleliu and the Rock Islands which will serve as the site of the games for the participants.
There are 16 participants. Every three days, a participant will be voted out.
