NMI Taxi Association president Edwin Pangelinan said the scheme will minimize fuel consumption and allow for a quicker response to a call.
He said under the plan, there will be a hotline in each area that customers can call if they need transportation service.
Initially, Pangelinan said they are considering taxi stations in Dandan as well as in the southern, northern and central areas of Saipan.
The 62 members of the group, he added, will spread out on island.
“This is our way of providing better service to the local community,” Pangelinan said.
Their group is primarily serving tourists at all hotels, at the airport and seaport.
Muhammad Habibur Pahman, the group’s vice president, said their taxis have car seats for baby passenger.
He said they keep the car seat in the baggage compartment and uses them if needed by their passengers.
But Pangelinan said they cannot transport person with disabilities because they need to undergo special training first.
Moreover, he said they need to have a fully equipped vehicle with a hydraulic ramp.
According to Pangelinan, their group will extend community services from time to time.
He said they will be collaborating with different government agencies in conducting a cleanup campaign.
“We just want to give something back from what we receive from the community,” he said.
