Participating teachers from Rota and Tinian have participated through video-teleconferencing, he added.

“We’ve experienced some problems with the VTC system but we’re working on it,” he said.

Russell is pleased with the level of interest shown by teachers throughout the program.

“I hope they have enjoyed the lectures and are gaining a better understanding of local history and culture.”

These teachers are expected to share with their students what they have learned from the program.

The council is appreciative of the institute’s  instructors who, according to Russell,  have done a “solid job.”

Certificates will be awarded to teachers who pass the final examination with a minimum grade point of 70 percent.

The Teachers Institute is an annual program organized by the NMI Humanities Council in cooperation with the Public School System.  It is intended to provide classroom teachers with a solid overview of local history.
