Tinian residents trooped to the island’s Bank of Saipan branch yesterday morning only to find policemen and security guards outside the bank.
At least 50 residents waited until noon outside the bank, hoping that a management representative would come out and explain what was happening.
“They made us look like a bunch of losers,” a resident who requested anonymity said.
Those who issued Bank of Saipan checks are worried that their creditors might go after them.
Those who transferred money for their children studying off-island expressed fear that their children could encounter difficulties.
“The government should do something to help us,” another resident said. “This is a major problem for us especially now that we are experiencing an economic crisis.”
“I’m not losing hope. I’ll keep on praying,” a depositor said.
