Phillip Mendiola-Long, chamber president, said the workshop will be held at Fleming Restaurant from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
“As a part of our ongoing monthly workshop series, we will be hosting the Department of Labor from Saipan to explain to the Tinian Chamber of Commerce what the new regulations are with regard to processing non-resident worker contracts. In addition, the department will be discussing the impacts of federalization on the local labor processing system,” he said in an email to the media.
Discussions will also touch on the issue of the mandated 50-cent increase this month on the islands current minimum wage rate of $4.05 an hour.
Issues about contract transfers and extensions as well as how employers can maximize the CNMI labor permit two years into the federal program will also be given focus.
Four new hotel and casino projects are anticipated to be built on Tinian.
The new investments came in the heels of the planned military buildup in Guam with the relocation of at least 8,000 U.S. Marines from Okinawa, Japan to the territory.
