Nine vendors participated, selling a variety of things. Several vendors also sold food and pearl shakes for the people to enjoy on a hot summer day.
Several people of the community were able to come out and enjoy this event even though government employees did not get paid this week.
Leonardo Aveina, who was one of the participating vendors, was relieved of the turnout.
“At first it was very slow and I thought that I would not make any sales, but in the end everything turned out great. I was able to turn junk into cash and I am satisfied with the results,” said Aveina.
With the economy in free fall, people are looking for ways to make any sort of income to put food on their table.
“Even though we did not get paid this week, I am glad that I was able to help out for this great cause. The Japanese community has benefited our islands for so many years and now it is our turn to give back,” said Aveina.
Committee members will continue to raise funds for Japan.
The upcoming fundraiser will be a Texas Hold’Em card game along with another garage sale at the end of this month.
