Tinian officials ‘arrested’

Among those “arrested” were the mayor’s chief executive officer Allen Perez, Municipal Council Chairman Patrick Manglona, Tinian Junior-Senior High School principal Julian Hofschneider, DPS Resident Director Ray Pangelinan, businesswoman Pinky Paguian, other directors of different agencies as well as members of the community.

According to Bernadita San Nicolas, head of the Japan Fund Drive, the police officers were instructed to transport the “suspects” to the fiesta grounds where they were to be put in “jail” and await for someone pay their “bail.”

“The Jail-N-Bail fundraiser is for a great cause.  This is all for the Japanese community who were affected by the tsunami earlier this year.  They have been helping our community for so long and it is time for us to return the favor,”  San Nicolas said.

Councilman Estevan Cabrera, who was one of the individuals “arrested,” said: “It was a numbing experience to be arrested on an arrest warrant. I was at my office when I was arrested.  When the officer put the handcuffs on my hand, that’s when it really hit me at what it feels like to be arrested.”

The members of this event were able to raise more than $800 in less than four hours. All proceeds will be given to the Japan Fund Drive.

The next fundraiser will be another garage sale at the end of this month.
