House Bill 16-169, the FY 2009 budget bill, allocated $7.5 million for Tinian’s personnel cost and nearly $900,000 for its operations and all others.
The mayor’s office will get $4.1 million, of which $3.3 million is for personnel salaries and $838,000 for operations.
Tinian has 290 full-time employees.
It was earlier disclosed by Tinian Mayor Jose San Nicolas that 41 of his full-time employees work for other agencies but draw their salaries from his office.
He requested for their lateral transfer to executive branch offices to reduce the municipality’s personnel expenditure.
The House bill, however, will not allow the mayor to have “full control” over the funds allotted for the resident offices of the departments and agencies on Tinian.
The Tinian municipal council will get $186,091 of which $140,403 will pay for personnel and $45,688 for its operation and supplies.
The rest of the $8.4 million will fund the salaries and operations of departments and divisions.
Of Tinian’s 290 FTEs, 132 are for the mayor’s office; 6, municipal council; 44, Department of Public Safety; 27, Public Health; 18, agriculture; 9, Parks and Recreation; 10, Public Works; 1 public library; 1, Soil and Water Conservation; 3, Fish and Wildlife; 4, Environmental Health; 3, dental services; 5, Customs; 3, Procurement and Supply; 2, Revenue and Taxation; 3, Finance; 6, Commerce; 2, Historical Preservation Office, 3, Sports and Recreation; and 8, Labor.
