At least nine NMTI students were hired to assist CUC in meter reading, meter installation and repair and maintenance.
NMTI president Anthony Pellegrino said the students are attending plumbing or electricity classes.
“You can do it. Just continue to persevere,” he told the students, as CUC Executive Director Utu Abe Malae met them in the CUC conference room for a briefing.
The students will assist CUC until Feb. 4, 2011.
Under the federal stipulated orders, CUC must complete the installation of meters by Jan. 31, 2011.
In its recent report, CUC’s consultant, Georgetown Consulting Group said 3,000 to 4,500 residential customers were classified as “unmetered.”
CUC is projecting to have 4,022 active metered residential customers and 5,029 unmetered residential customers this year.
