Fritz & Joe Kosam
FRITZ Kosam and his twin brother, Joe Kosam, both 19, are facing up to 10 years in prison on burglary and theft charges.
The Department of Public Safety has identified the twins as the suspects in a burglary at Cheers Karaoke in Garapan on June 16, 2025.
At a bail hearing before Superior Court Judge Joseph N. Camacho on Monday, the Kosam brothers appeared in the custody of the Department of Corrections and informed the court they needed a Chuukese interpreter, which the court granted. Mercedes Usenuku served as interpreter during the proceedings.
Assistant Public Defender Molly Dennert was appointed to represent Fritz Kosam, while a private attorney will be appointed for Joe Kosam.
Assistant Attorney General David Krach represented the government and asked the court to maintain the $25,000 bail for both defendants.
According to Krach, the burglary charge carries a maximum sentence of five years and a $5,000 fine, while the theft charge also carries up to five years and a $5,000 fine.
Both brothers were charged with burglary and theft. Fritz Kosam faces an additional charge of vandalism.
Judge Camacho maintained the $25,000 bail and remanded the brothers to the custody of the Department of Corrections. He ordered them to return for a preliminary hearing on July 9 at 10 a.m., and for arraignment on July 14 at 9 a.m.
According to DPS, “Both defendants were arrested Friday afternoon.”
“The arrests are in reference to a burglary and theft incident reported at Cheers Karaoke Bar in Garapan on June 16, 2025, at 4:58 p.m. Officers learned that both defendants forced their way into the bar through the front door and stole assorted bottles of liquor worth $1,373 and $131 in cash,” DPS said.
The defendants “were identified through surveillance footage and later confessed to being responsible for the incident.”
In a statement to detectives, Fritz Kosam said he and his brother left their residence around 12 a.m. and walked to Garapan. Upon arrival at Cheers Karaoke Bar, he said he went to the southern side double doors, broke the left door handle with his right hand, removed the chain and padlock, and entered the establishment. Fritz said he was the first to go in and stole a total of eight bottles of Johnnie Walker, as well as $40 from the drawers.
Joe Kosam told detectives that his brother climbed onto the right door handle and kicked the left handle three to four times until it broke. He said Fritz then removed the chain and padlock, entered the building, and told him to go in and take whatever he needed. Joe said he took two bottles of wine.
