CUC power division manager Gary P. Camacho said mechanics at the plant were able to address the problem immediately.
“It was just a matter of completing the repair and by 12 noon the engine was back again,” Camacho said.
An electrical failure at the breaker for secondary cooling water caused the engine to trip off, he said.
CUC has available materials and parts to replace the broken mechanism, he added.
In a separate interview, CUC Executive Director Antonio S. Muna said when Engine 3 went down, the repair efforts on Engine 6 was also completed, thus they were still able to meet the average power generation.
“Those are things we need to handle and we really need to start up our power production to meet the demands of the consumer,” Muna said, adding that it is a great challenge for CUC to provide a stable power supply.
