THE USS Chancellorsville is currently on a week-long port call here as the Navy resumes its live fire exercises on Farallon de Medinilla.
The Chancellorsville is part of the USS Kitty Hawk battle group based in Yokosuka, Japan.
The Chancellorsville was commissioned on Nov. 4, 1989 in San Diego. It is part of the 7th Fleet’s Forward Deployed Naval Force, which is a key component of the U.S. efforts “to promote cooperation, maintain stability and deter aggression in the Northeast Asia and Pacific region.”
The Chancellorsville has the Navy’s latest combat systems suite and numerous upgrades, “making her one of the most capable warships in the fleet.”
The ship was named Chancellorsville in commemoration of the Civil War battle fought south of the Rappahannock and Rapidan Rivers in Virginia.
The USS Chancellorsville has an overall length of 567 feet, an extreme beam of 55 feet and a full displacement of 9,991 tons.
Also expected to pull into Saipan’s port in the next few days are the MV Ltc. Calvin P. Titus, the MV Sgt. William R. Button and the MV 1st Lt. Baldomero Lopez.
