CNMI Military and Veterans Affairs Executive Director Ruth Coleman said representatives of the Marianas Visitors Authority and the Saipan Chamber of Commerce will be welcoming the ship and its crewmembers at the port.
Coleman said tomorrow, the 215 officers and crewmembers of Crommelin will be treated to dinner at the 360 Revolving Restaurant at Marianas Business Plaza in Susupe starting at 6:30 p.m. by the Saipan Chamber of Commerce, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the governor’s office, the seaport office and the Military and Veterans Affairs Office.
Coleman said the CNMI welcomes any Navy ships that come to the island for rest and recreation as they boost the local economy while giving sailors a chance to see the beauty of the islands and get a taste of island hospitality.
Crommelin is under the command by Joseph M. Keenan, a native of Glenolden, Pennsylvania. Keenan is a 1991 graduate of Villanova University.
Crommelin is the 28th ship of the Oliver Hazard Perry-class of guided-missile frigates named for three brothers — Vice Admiral Henry Crommelin, Cmdr. Charles Crommelin and Lt. Cmdr. Richard Crommelin.
Crommelin was assigned to Destroyer Squadron 9 and reached its homeport of Long Beach, California in Aug. 1983. The ship is now home-ported in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii and is assigned to Destroyer Squadron 31.
Crommelin will depart Saipan on Aug. 19.
