USS Emory S. Land visits Saipan, sailors to volunteer in community

ASAN, Guam (Commander, Joint Region Marianas) — Sailors of USS Emory S. Land (AS 39) will conduct training and volunteer their time during a port visit in Saipan, in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Wednesday, April 24.

While on island, sailors will participate in the following community service projects:

• April 25: Memorial park beautification from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

• April 26: Tank Beach cleanup in Kagman from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Emory S. Land, homeported in Guam, is a forward-deployed submarine tender tasked with providing expeditionary intermediate level maintenance and repairs, as well as providing hotel service and logistics support to deployed guided-missile and fast-attack submarines deployed in the 7th Fleet area of responsibility. Emory S. Land is additionally capable of providing repair and logistic services to deployed surface combatants and ships.
