THE Department of Finance will welcome Carmen Cabrera with “open arms,” Finance Secretary Frankie B. Villanueva said yesterday.
Cabrera, one of the key Babauta-Benavente campaign volunteers, was recently removed from the Department of Public Health and transferred to Finance.
“She is welcome at Finance. In fact, there is work already awaiting her here,” Villanueva told Variety.
Citing the need to streamline operations, Health Secretary James U. Hofschneider “eliminated” Cabrera’s position as Division of Public Health accountant.
Cabrera chaired the Babauta-Benavente women volunteers and the transition subcommittee that reviewed Public Health’s performance. One of her panel’s recommendations was the streamlining of “duplicated functions.”
But Cabrera also opposed the nomination of Dr. James U. Hofschneider as public health secretary. It was Hofschneider who transferred her to Finance.
Villanueva said Cabrera’s transfer had already been “cleared” at the Department of Public Health and the Office of Personnel Management.
