Warfield, Taijeron join Legislature as House counsels

Glenna Palacios-Reyes, the newly appointed director of the Legislative Bureau, said former assistant chief prosecutor Jeffery Warfield Sr. and former Assistant Attorney General Joe Taijeron were hired as new House counsels.

The House, which has 20 members, is entitled to three legal counsels.

Before Taijeron started reporting for work on Oct. 27, the House had only one counsel.

Palacios-Reyes said Warfield, who is best known for his involvement in the extradition case of the late Japanese businessman Kazuyoshi Miura to California, will officially join the House on Nov. 10.

Palacios-Reyes said Taijeron and Warfield have extensive legal experience that will help lawmakers’ draft legislation that benefits the Northern Marianas.

“I received a lot of good recommendations about these lawyers. I am really happy that the LB has the opportunity to work with them,” she said.
