IT is now the open season for hunting wild goats on Aguigan, according to the Department of Lands and Natural Resources.
The three-month open season started on April 17 and will end on July 17.
Marianne Teregeyo, DLNR’s special assistant for correspondence, said every licensed hunter is limited to only 20 wild goats during the entire open season for hunting.
Teregeyo yesterday called on all interested parties to first secure a license from the Division of Fish and Wildlife on Tinian.
“Those hunters who do not submit their hunting report card will not get a license to hunt wild goats this year,” she said.
Individuals caught hunting wild goats without a valid license will be penalized, she said.
The license fee is $5. An Aguigan “entry permit” should also be secured from the Tinian Mayor’s Office, Teregeyo added.
The only weapons for hunting wild goats are the .22 magnum and the .22 rifle, she said.
On Anatahan, the wild goat population has already reached some 4,000, prompting DFW and the Northern Islands Mayor’s Office to implement a program to reduce the number of these animals.
Richard Seman, DFW director, earlier said the large population of wild goats was endangering Anatahan’s forests and vegetation.
