THE Superior Court handed a three-day jail term to a woman who stole $205 from her then employer, Duty Free Shoppers Galleria.
Following a plea agreement, Associate Judge Juan T. Lizama sentenced Rebecca C. Camacho to one-year imprisonment, all suspended except for three days.
During Wednesday’s hearing, Lizama ordered Camacho to start serving the jail term on April 12 at 8 a.m. at the Division of Corrections.
Lizama said the defendant will be placed on one-year probation and will be required to perform 100 hours of community work service.
The judge directed Camacho to pay $205 in restitution to DFS, $200 in fine, and $65 in assessment and probation fees.
“The defendant shall write a letter of apology to DFS within 30 days of sentencing. The letter shall contain the three-day sentence and her remorsefulness,” Lizama said.
Camacho was charged with theft/embezzlement. The offense carries a maximum penalty of up to one-year imprisonment and a fine of up to $1,000.
The defendant and her counsel, Assistant Public Defender Douglas Hartig, signed a plea agreement with the government represented by Assistant Attorney General Daniel H. Cohan. She pleaded guilty.
Court papers showed that on three different occasions between March 12, 2001 and April 18, 2001, the defendant unlawfully took a total of $205 cash from DFS in Garapan.
