Woman in document fraud gets 30-day jail term

Associate judge David A. Wiseman sentenced  Anita Camacho to one year imprisonment, all suspended except for 30 days and one year probation,  with credit for the five days already served in jail.

Wiseman also ordered Camacho to abide by all the terms and conditions of probations, and obey all CNMI and federal laws. Camacho will pay $125 in assessment fees and fines.

She will report to the Department of Corrections on Sept. 29 at 8 a.m.

She will cooperate in the prosecution of her co-conspirators and defendants in other related cases.

The Attorney General’s Officer earlier filed charges against Camacho for one count of attempted unlawful employment of an alien, one count for inducement by fraudulent misrepresentation, one count for conspiracy to commit inducement by fraudulent misrepresentation, one count for document fraud and another count for document fraud.

Camacho entered into a plea agreement and pleaded guilty to the charges of document fraud.

The court allowed the dismissal of the other charges.

Wiseman set the review hearing for Jan. 14, 2009.

Camacho was arrested along with seven other individuals for conspiracy and document fraud on April 2, 2008.

The information filed by Assistant Attorney General Kevin Lynch stated that on March 3, Camacho attempted to unlawfully hire for employment Dennis Fabian when no job existed in the commonwealth. Fabian also did not have legal documentation and authority to be employed.

The charges also stated that on Jan. 17, Camacho told Fabian that he could obtain employment or a labor immigration benefit despite the fact that she knew Fabian was not legally permitted to work nor entitled to any benefits.

The information  stated that that Camacho received $1,500 from Fabian in exchange for assisting him to procure employment and benefits.

On Feb. 17, Camacho, according to the information, forged a false employment contract and a false job certification for Fabian to satisfy labor or immigration requirements or obtain a labor or immigration benefit.

Camacho was released to a third party custodian after posting a security bond last week.
