According to Fritz, the program will take inbound students from Micronesia to visit Japan from June 20 to 29.
Fritz further stated that the new Hatoyama government, which has been keen on budget reduction, modified the program so that the return visit to the FSM by Japanese students will no longer include all four states.
“Japan is now sending students to one state instead of four and will continue to do it on a rotating basis. So Pohnpei will receive 16 students from Japan this year,” Fritz said.
The exchange program was initiated by then-Japan Prime Minister Mori under the auspices of the Ministry of Education, Culture, and Sports Science Technology.
This is the ninth exchange to take place. Participating countries include FSM, Palau, and the Marshall islands.
Anefal assigned the Department of Youth and Civic Affairs to take the lead in coordinating Yap’s participation in the program.
