“Although the program has faced many challenges since its inception in 2007, it continues to strive in making improvements to achieve the program’s goals. Most of those improvements include the design and location of new developments, design and placement of signs, more attractive landscaping and parking areas, consistency in land subdivision requirements, as well as simplified permit application processing,” Blanco said in the zoning’s Fiscal Year 2010 Annual Report submitted to the government.
In that report, Blanco said the Zoning Board processed more than 8,000 inquiries and permits from residents and commercial establishments seeking to comply with land-use developing and other new zoning regulations on Saipan.
“In 2010 alone, since January, the office had processed close to 2,000 zoning inquiries on business activities and clearances for zoning applications, site plans or subdivision plans,” reported Blanco.
This year, the Zoning Board plans to further amend existing regulations to conform with more environmentally friendly policies observed around the nation.
