SUPERIOR Court Associate Judge Kenneth L. Govendo has sentenced Julian Thomas M. Sablan to 10 years’ imprisonment, all suspended except for four years to be served day for day without the possibility of parole.
Judge Govendo also gave Sablan credit for 98 days of time already served.
Sablan will be released from the custody of the Department of Corrections on Sept. 28, 2026, at 8 a.m.
He pled guilty to assault with a dangerous weapon at a change of plea hearing on Thursday, Jan. 5, 2023 and was represented by Chief Public Defender Douglas Hartig. Chief Prosecutor Chester Hinds appeared for the government.
Judge Govendo found Sablan’s decision to plead guilty was freely, knowingly, voluntarily and intelligently made.
Sablan had the advice of a competent counsel with whom he said he was satisfied, the judge noted.
“He understood the consequences of his plea; and there is a factual basis for the plea,” the judge added.
As part of his sentence, Sablan will pay a total of $300 in court costs and fine.
He will also be placed under supervised probation for five years beginning on Sept. 28, 2026, and will perform 100 hours of community work service.
A repeat offender, Sablan, 33, was arrested in September 2022 for, among other things, pointing a gun at his neighbor’s head at a store in Garapan.
He was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery, and disturbing the peace.
