MAY 18 is Emergency Medical Services for Children Day in the NMI.
Governor Ralph DLG Torres, joined by Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services officials and personnel, gathered for a proclamation signing ceremony to mark the occasion.
According to the proclamation, more than 30 million children receive emergency medical care each year due to illness or injury.
The needs of children are different than the needs of adults in medical emergencies, it adds.
In 2020, DFEMS responded to a total of 512 children out of 5,730 patients.
It is proper and timely to bring recognition to the value and accomplishments of Emergency Medical Services for Children and the dedicated men and women who work tirelessly to improve the quality of pediatric medical care, the proclamation stated.
As part of National EMS Week in the CNMI, Governor Torres urges all citizens and healthcare professionals serving the pediatric population to celebrate the theme, “Rising to the Challenge”; to become familiar with Emergency Medical Services for Children, its programs and activities in the Commonwealth and nationally; and to support and participate in educational and outreach programs to increase their knowledge of best pediatric medical care practices.
