TINIAN Mayor Edwin Aldan said he agrees with Gov. Ralph DLG Torres’ proposed $9.9 million budget for Tinian.
In his fiscal year 2022 budget submission, the governor proposes $5.8 million from the general fund and $4.1 million in American Rescue Plan Act monies for Tinian. Of the total $9.9 million for Tinian, $8.2 million is allotted for 292 personnel and $1.4 million for “all others.”
Aldan told House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Donald Manglona that he agrees with the governor’s budget proposal for Tinian “provided that we are able to reallocate the funds to bring the departments back to their fiscal year 2019 pre-Covid funding level.”
The mayor also asked the committee to accommodate the requests of Tinian resident directors for the procurement of “much needed vehicles and equipment.”
Moreover, he reiterated the need for the Legislature to allocate funds for emergencies and natural disasters, and to provide language in the administrative provisions of the appropriation measure, requiring the transfer of funds to the Tinian and Rota accounts at the beginning of each month, equal to the monthly allotments.
And finally, the mayor said, Tinian needs to hire two more employees for the Department of Commerce – Alcohol Beverage and Tobacco Control Division, which is funded by the tobacco-control revolving fund.
