According to Mary Arius, PLL librarian, “movie nights” is a program that the library hopes to use to entice people of all ages to appreciate literary works that is portrayed on screen. Further, “movie nights” provide an opportunity for parents and their children to visit the library and possibly check out books.
“We have been working collaboratively with Palau Community College’s LS students and their teacher and volunteers to develop and implement ‘movie nights’,” said Arius. “The program premiered on the night of October 23, 2009 and based on the number of people who showed up, it was a success.
The success of the program has prompted the Public Library to host another movie tonight, October 30, 2009.
“We adhere to the censorship ratings of the movies we show,” she said, “and make sure that the movies we show are age-appropriate for the people we serve.”
Arius said that the library will be showing Wrong Turn 3 this Friday. The movie is rated PG-13; and thus only people who are 13 or above will be allowed into the library during the movie. Arius further added that the movie will start at 6:00 p.m. and is free of charge.
The library was packed to its limits during the last “movie night.”
“Space in the library is limited,” Arius said. “The best seats are reserved for those who come early.”
