Museum opens new Café

The place used to be a restaurant run by a concessionaire. But when the term ended, the Museum decided to take over, said Pia Morei, Belau National Museum Director, said in an interview.

“So it’s now owned and operated by the Museum,” she added. “Although we are still working on the menu, expanding it and checking how the customer will like it, Keam Café is now open to serve customers.”

The quaint café located on the right side of the Museum entrance can comfortably sit around 50 people. It’s an ideal respite for guests, especially tourists who want to spend a quiet afternoon after a tour of the museum.

“Our prices are very competitive since we don’t need to pay taxes,” Morei said. “And people can also use the space for events. We accept catering.”

The cafés menu basically offers coffee, ice cream and pastries. Hot and iced coffee cost only $1.25 to $1.50. Their freshly squeezed lemonade with free refills is also $1.50. Banana split is only $2.50, and ice cream float is $2. Brownie Sundae ice cream is $2.50, and toasted bagel is $1.50.

Morei said the café is also a good money-making avenue for the museum.
