According to Paramount High Chief Ibbedul Yutaka M. Gibbons, the Koror State Government has earmarked $50,000 fund for the project. They will also ask Taiwan and Japan government as well as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for the grants.
He said the House of Traditional Leaders is over 50 years old. Its ceiling is almost falling and the wall is faded.
Gibbons said the old office will be demolished and the new building will be built in the same area.
Ibbedul said the construction will probably start next year.
Meanwhile Gov. Yositaka Adachi also said that there is a fund allocated for the demolition and design of the building. But since the KSG does not have enough budgets they are asking for additional funding.
Adachi said the KSG wrote a letter to the House of Delegates for assistance.
He said they asked Delegate Alexander Merep to amend the old appropriation earmarked by the national government for the design of Ngarachamayong cultural center in order to use the remaining fund for the construction of Abai house.
Adachi said there is approximately $293.000.00 balance from the initial funding of the Cultural Center before the Taiwan stimulus. This fund is a non-lapsing appropriation.
The House of Traditional Leaders is a former Koror State Office.
