THE new officers of the United Filipino Organization led by their president, Birhen Martinez, were sworn in Saturday at Chowtime Restaurant in Garapan.

Acknowledging the accomplishments of UFO’s previous leaders, Martinez, in her remarks, said, “I know it will not be easy. I have big shoes to fill, but I am confident, along with other elected officers of UFO, and the leaders and members of the 10 unit organizations under the umbrella of UFO that we will continue to unite to support the mission and vision of our organization.”

A civil engineer, Martinez said she is looking forward to working with the Palacios-Apatang administration and the Saipan mayor for future projects that will benefit the entire island community.

Lt. Gov. David M. Apatang, who swore in the new UFO officers, noted the organization’s contributions to the community.

“UFO has been in existence for many years, and has done countless and important projects for our island and community,” Apatang said.

“UFO has graciously contributed…resources in making our community better. We can see that almost everywhere on island,” he added. “Your meaningful contributions in our community show you care.”

The other special guest, Saipan Mayor Ramon “RB” Camacho, encouraged the group to work closely with him.

“My top three priorities for the Saipan municipality are a safe community, safe villages, and a clean island — let’s work together,” he added.
