New US envoy to arrive in Palau next month

KOROR (Palau Horizon) — The new United States ambassador to Palau is scheduled to arrive here in July to present his credentials.

Francis J. Ricciardone’s Jr. visit to Palau will coincide with the celebration of the nation’s Constitution Day, according to State Minister Temmy Shmull.

Shmull said Ricciardone will be asked to speak during the Constitution Day celebration.

Ricciardone is also the U.S. envoy to the Philippines.

The ambassador was director of the U.S. Department’s Task Force on the Coalition against Terrorism and served as senior advisor to the director-general of the foreign service.

From March 1999 to March 2001, he was the secretary of state’s special coordinator for the transition of Iraq. Ricciardone is also the recipient of awards for policy and program management and political reporting.

In related news, French Ambassador to Palau Renee Veyret arrived in the country to present her credentials to President Tommy Remengesau.

Veyret replaced Ambassador Gilles Chouraqui who has completed his term.
