Ngardmau to elect new government today

Ngardmau State has a total of 394 registered voters. Its legislature is composed of 9 elected members.

According to the Palau Election Commission officials, there are a total of 48 absentee ballots – 6 of which were “walk-in cast” and 41 were mailed out of Palau.There are 20 candidates in the running for the 9 seats of the state’ legislature. They are Presley Etibek, Sabu D. Tudong, Ngirengkebur Tem Meriang, Renguul V. Masahiro, Willard Kumangai, Takesi Ito, Johnston Blesoch Aderkeroi, Diana Smau, Lerins Sakaziro, Marino Thomas, Bradley Kumangai, Wilhelm Ngiraikelau, Tarita Holm, Ananias Ngiraiwet, Johnny Tudong, Ngirchochit Tolngii, Fermin R. Meriang, Masao Sabo Esebei, Kuiroy Arurang, and Helen Ngirmekur.For the office of the state’s governor, the voting citizens of the state will either vote for incumbent Governor Akiko Sugiyama or J. Schwartz Tudong; or seat a person of their choosing as a write-in candidate.Sugiyama is serving her second year as governor. She was elected governor two years ago to complete Tudong’s term after he was impeached as governor.The polling places for Ngardmau State’s election of its government leaders are Palau High School Gym (central) and Ngardmau State Office (proper). The polls will open today at 7:00 a.m. and will close at 7:00 p.m.
