OVER 60 school children, accompanied by their parents, received free haircuts on Sunday as they prepare for the opening of Public School System classes on Aug. 22.

Organized by the Saipan Magahaga Lady Eagles Group, the Back-to-School Free Haircuts event was led by eight hairstylists who volunteered their time and expertise to help parents cope with the island’s rising cost of living.

The hairdressers include Linda Lumauag, MommyLa Beauty Salon’s Sharmaine Casquero, Zi Salon and Barbershop’s Jesse Garcia, Trends Salon’s Renz Tero, Mary Beauty Salon’s Rica Lozarito, Velleza Blow Dry Bar’s Chona Paraiso, Perfect Image’s Michelle Santos and Alex Kabiling.

Rebecca Nakatsukasa, one of the parents who brought her children to the haircut event, said, “I was really thanking them. This is a good thing that they are doing to help the community.”

Former Rota Rep. Crispin Ogo, who also brought his children, said, “I was sharing with my kids the value of what this group is doing. They are giving back to the community and this is a good example of people helping people in this diverse island community,” Ogo added.

Yolanda De Ramos, president of the Saipan Magahaga Lady Eagles Group, said she and the rest of the Lady Eagles were very grateful for the support of the participating hairstylists.
