Based on the initial statement, Tmetuchl Baules, Public Information Officer of PPUC, said there was smoke coming out of the PPUC sub-station in Malakal. The computer detected the problem causing it to shut down. And for the security reason the PPUC also shutdown the power in its sub-station in Aimeliik State.
The power outage started at 1: 30 p.m. and resumed on at 9 p.m.
The PPUC Engineers are still determining the cause of island wide power outage.
The sub-station in Malakal supplies power in Koror State and portion of the Babeldaob while the sub-station in Aimeliik also supplies power in the Babeldaob area.
One of the Engineers said once the sub-station in Malakal bogs down; the sub-station in Aimeliik needs to be shutdown to prevent power overloading.
Only the PPUC sub-station in Melekeok remains on.
The power outage caused several business establishment to stop their operation.
