Mariah Okada is an Academy of our Lady of Guam student from Hagatna, Guam.
Okada was selected for membership and the society recognizes top scholars and invites students who have achieved superior academic excellence .In a statement, Claes Nobel, NSHSS founder and Chairman made the announcement.“On behalf of NSHSS, I am honored to recognize the hard work, sacrifice, and commitment that Mariah Okada has demonstrated to achieve this exceptional level of academic excellence,” Nobel said.The statement said that membership in the NSHSS recognizes academic excellence at the high school level and encourages members of the organization to apply their unique talents, vision, and potential for the betterment of themselves and the world.Mariah, in a phone interview said that a student in order to get in the society should have a grade point average of at least 3.5 or above.Mariah is now in Palau to apply for a scholarship being offered by the Japan government to Palauan students.Mariah moved to Guam since she was three years old. She has been returning to Palau every year during Christmas and summer vacation.Mariah said she wants to take up law and has been accepted to the University of Portland.Okada is the granddaughter of Palau Ambassador to Japan Minoru Ueki.
