Palau Visitors Authority said the 100,000th visitor was ushered from the plane to the VIP lounge and was greeted by Toribiong, members of the diplomatic corps, lawmakers, cabinet ministers and other officials.
A welcome reception was held in the airport’s main lobby. Prizes from the tourism partners were awarded to the special visitor.
It was the first time for Palau to reach a total of 100,000 visitors with still four weeks left before year 2011 ends.
PVA monthly statistics showed that the number of visitors to Palau is consistently increasing this year as compared to the previous year.
In 2010, monthly total arrivals were as follows: 6,909 in January; 8,630 in February; 7,463 in March; 5,233 in April; 5,568 in May; 4,610 in June; 10,008 in July; 9,078 in August; 7,203 in September; 6,833 in October; 6,096 in November; and 7,962 in December.
This year, monthly statistics were as follows: 9,308 in January; 8,905 in February; 7,515 in March; 7,979 in April; 7,240 in May; 7,489 in June; 11,091 in July; 12,335 in August; 10,327 in September; and 8,286 in October (so far, the available statistics is as of October).
