PCC’s Kaeb launched

The launching of the racing canoe was held on Friday morning at the PCC compound called Taoch ra Idederach.PCC President Dr. Patrick Tellei headed the brief ceremony which attended by some government officials.The red canoe built by 89-year-old Ebekeu  Orukei Bukringang was tested and was sailed on the waters during the ceremony.Dr. Tellei and the other PCC officials commended Bukringang and the other canoe builders Oltbab Robat Saburo and Patrick Oilouch for building the canoe.The builders started carving the canoe in March.Dr. Robert Emais donated the wood.He said in early years, canoe was the old form of transportation in Palau and they are trying to bring back the old cultures and traditions by teaching the students  how to sail and fish using the canoe.Dr. Tellei said a course about navigation will be offered at PCC and students will be sailing naturally once the classes start next month.The course, which is part of the school’s program about Palauan culture, will start in the fall of Semester.Ephraim Ngirachitei, PCC President”s Representative to Micronesian Voyaging Society will be sailing to Yap to promote the course. He will be sailing with Captain Sesario and his crew.Ngirachitei and Captain Sesario will be sailing via a voyaging canoe called Alingano Maisu.
