PCS fundraising draws crowd

Highlights of the event were the pledges of donations and the launching of the Kim er Belau campaign and the Kim mascot.

Kim er Belau means conservation education campaign and the purpose of this campaign is to protect clams in Palau.AS part of the conservation education campaign, PCS introduced the mascot called Biib; a Palau Fruit Dove played by 11-year-old Burke Fox.The fundraising activity was held at the PRR hotel and was attended by over a hundred of people from private and government sectors.PCS Chairwoman Maura Gordon welcomed the guests.Taiwan Ambassador Maggie T. Tien graced the affair and gave special remarks about environment.Vice President Elias Camsek Chin and Senator Allan Seid also came and pledged $500.Raffle draws and dance entertainment was also provided to the audience.The Chairperson’s Gala Dinner started three years ago. This is the time where the elected chairperson will invite people to raise funds to support the PCS programs.Gordon was elected in June. She replaced Moses Uludong.Founding Board Member Sandra S. Pierantozzi and Executive Director Tiare Turang Holm were also present that night.Yalap P. Yalap, PCS Education Program Coordinator said that they are trying to educate the people and try to teach them some sustainable harvest system through their sustainable hunting program to protect the clams in Palau.Yalap said Clams have nine species and Palau has seven of them.“That’s why it is very important to protect them because we want to have them for a very long time,”he said in an interview on Thursday.
