(Press Release) — Since June 2020, the United Carolinians Association Board of Directors has been meeting to discuss and implement a community project geared toward supporting local entrepreneurship. To this end, and in collaboration with the Carolinian Affairs Office and the CNMI Women’s Associatio, UCA had planned for the launching of Project Liffang, with a kickoff date this coming Saturday, March 20, 2021, at the Carolinian Utt in Garapan.

Due to the recent detection of Covid-19 community transmission, UCA president Frank Rabauliman would like to inform the public about the postponement of the event launch until further guidance from the Governor’s Covid-19 Task Force is issued. “We keep those affected in our thoughts and prayers, and hope that the excellent work of the Governor’s Covid-19 Task Force and the frontliners to date prevents any further spread. We will inform the community of the new launch date of Project Liffang once it is decided,” said Rabauliman.
According to UCA Economic Development Committee chair Felicidad Ogumoro, “In our community today, and particularly as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, many of our people who were already living below the poverty line prior to the pandemic, have lost their jobs or have had drastic reductions in their household income. UCA proposes to pool our resources together and share with our suffering families — via Liffang. Liffang, a Refaluwasch term, means ‘give away.’ In line with this philosophy, we are launching Project Liffang — a way of providing support to members of our community who are significantly affected by the current Covid pandemic crisis in our community. We are excited to launch our event once it is safe to do so.”
