(PSS) — Four public school students were named winners of the Public School System’s 2023 Digital Learning Day competition.
At the awards ceremony on Thursday, Feb. 23, 2023, at the Aqua Resort Club, Commissioner of Education Dr. Alfred B. Ada and the interim director of Instructional Technology and Distance Education or ITDE, Lorraine Catienza, commended the students winners.
For the early elementary level (kindergarten to grade 2), Yo Han Jeong, a second-grader at Oleai Elementary School, won the top prize. Jeong submitted a short essay and original drawing to showcase “How Technology Helps Me Learn.”
Tinian Elementary School 5th grader Xu Jojo Lazaro topped the elementary level (3rd-5th grade category). She submitted a multimedia presentation on how technology helps him succeed in education.
Piper Christian, a 6th grader from Tinian Elementary School, was the 6th-8th grade level winner. She submitted an original video poem focused on the importance of technology in learning.
In the high school category, Andrew Bailey Sunderland, a 12th grader from Saipan Southern High School, was the winner. His original short video with multimedia integration answered the question, “What is a 21st Century Learner?”
“This competition was created to celebrate the role of technology in supporting learning and teaching, and promote the effective use of tech tools to improve the learning experience for all CNMI students,” interim ITDE Director Catienza said.
Also present at the event were the students’ family members, school principals, and PSS management team members.
A total of 185 students participated in this year’s Digital Learning Day competition which showcased the importance of technology in helping students become lifelong learners.
