HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — Rumors of a Guahan Academy Charter School student having a gun prompted a Guam Police Department response. However, the investigation confirmed that “the item in question was, in fact, an electric hot glue gun, brought to school by a student for a class project.”
On Monday, officers from GPD’s central precinct received a phone call from Guahan Academy regarding a student who was believed to have brought a gun on campus.
According to a GPD press release issued Monday afternoon, the school took immediate precautionary measures and placed the campus on lockdown.
Then officers investigated the reported incident.
“It was determined through word of mouth that a student had overheard another student mention the possession of a gun,” the release stated.
The lockdown of Guahan Academy was lifted shortly after police arrived on the scene and the situation was resolved without incident. Following the investigation, “it was confirmed that the perceived threat was a misunderstanding regarding the nature of the object brought to school,” according to GPD.
Students, parents and school staff were also immediately contacted to address concerns about the incident.
“We would like to emphasize that at no point during this incident were any children, staff members or community members injured. The collaboration between Guahan Academy and the Central Precinct command highlights the importance of prompt and effective response protocols in ensuring the safety of our educational institutions,” the GPD release stated.
