Satoru Adachi , PPUC said its “double trouble” for the power distribution company because two problems occurred in just a span of one day.
‘PPUC does not want to be in this situation,” Adachi told reporters. He said the problem at the main cable running from Aimeliik Plant to occurred Sunday night cutting off power in areas in T-Dock, Ngerchemai , Iyebukel, Ngermid and Ngesaol. On top of the main cable problem, two engines at the Malakal power plant broke down forcing PPUC to implement power rationing anew. The main cable problems were resolved Monday night as areas which had to suffer from a 24-hour power outage had their electricity resumed again.Since Sunday night, Adachi said the PPUC crew is working round-the –clock to determine the problem at the main cable line from Aimeliik to Koror. The power rationing which will last for at least two weeks meanwhile was a result of the engine problems at Malakal Plant. He said the schedule will cut off power to at least four hours .Adachi said that the peak load in Palau reaches to 11.6 megawatts and because of the engine break down the plant can only have a capacity of 8.5 megawatts.Adachi said he is asking the consumers’ understanding to the situation.
