RP Embassy conducts seminar

The topics of the seminar included Palau labor laws, rules and regulations, Palau Social Security and Philippine Machine Readable Passport and other consular services by the Philippine Embassy.Marino said during the seminar that the OFWs issues mainly concerned issues about the law against transfer of a foreign worker to another employer.Marino said that during the seminar, the Filipino workers also clarified the issue on who should be responsible for the payment of foreign workers’ work permits.Labor officers attending the seminar said that employers’ are supposed to shoulder the work permit when employees decide to extend the services of an employee.Marino also answered queries from the OFWs regarding the Social Security Law.Marino said there is a pending piece of legislation before the Olbiil Era Kelulau (OEK) that will allow OFWs to receive their retirement benefits in the Philippines instead of  staying in Palau to continue to receive it.Labor officers  Rengeos Naruo and Kellak Ngiraibai,   meanwhile conducted a lecture then answered questions from the OFWs regarding the country’s labor laws.The seminar was held on June 29 at the embassy  which lasted for 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Marino, and embassy officers Romulo Velasco, Mauricio Gervacio and Nilo Bungay were presented to answer questions.
