SAIPAN Mayor David M. Apatang on Thursday commended the Saipan street naming and addressing division staff for successfully completing their hands-on training in the operation of the AutoCAD LT software.
The computer-aided design, or CAD, software is what architects, engineers, construction professionals, and designers rely on to produce two-dimensional drawings and documentation.
Apatang commended Janice Celis, Jaycee Rdialul, Mary Becky Repeki, and Zakariahs Reyes for earning 96 hours of hands-on training in the operation of the software.
“A milestone in our efforts to increase competence in how we deliver services to the public, and I am very proud of the accomplishments,” said Mayor Apatang.
He said his staff dedicated three consecutive weeks, four days a week, eight hours each day to gain the necessary skills to operate the version of the software used by their contractor to develop the Saipan street naming and addressing master map.
Celis, Rdialul, Repeki, and Reyes can now independently implement the master map without the assistance of the contractor that developed the master map.
They expressed their gratitude to Mayor Apatang for ensuring that they were properly trained to enhance their skillsets.
H.K. Pangelinan & Associates LLC, a local engineering firm, conducted the three-week training.
“[The] staff are now very capable to use the AutoCAD file for purposes of updating the master map, locating streets, generating street address numbers for newly identified and named streets, and many more,” said Henry K. Pangelinan, president of the engineering firm.
Jordan Mendiola, who is employed by the firm, was the trainer.
“The trainees were quick learners and I can say that they enjoyed every minute of their 96 hours of training,” he said.
Mayor Apatang said while the AutoCAD training is over, his street naming and addressing division staff are currently being trained on the operation of Global Information System, or GIS, mapping application for two hours a week.
Training of staff will continue within the year and beyond, he said, as his office shifts gears to developing its GIS mapping database.
The database is anticipated to be the ultimate application for the street naming and addressing master map.
