THE Saipan Mayor’s Office on Friday donated 25 pairs of Nike shoes to Karidat, a church-based charitable organization.
Mayor David M. Apatang and his special assistant Henry Hofschneider handed the shoes to Karidat executive director Laurie Ogumoro and Savannah Delos Santos, Karidat’s human trafficking outreach specialist, in the mayor’s office conference room.
“I am sure this wonderful donation would bring everlasting smiles on many young faces that we regularly see as part of our charitable mission,” Ogumoro said.
For her part, Delos Santos said, “The act of giving, although it sounds very simple, actually has a lasting effect on the recipient, and that is our primary work as caring citizens of this very beautiful island that we call home.”
Apatang received the shoes from a friend of Carisa Rudolf of Nike Global Footwear.
“I want to thank our friend in Beaverton, Oregon who coordinated with Ms. Rudolf in getting the donation shipped to Saipan,” the mayor said.
“From the residents of the municipality of Saipan and me, I want to extend a warm Hafa Adai to Ms. Rudolf and her friend for including the kids of Saipan in their act of giving,” the mayor said.
“I invite Ms. Rudolf and her friend to visit Saipan soon, and meet some of the precious young kids that would be getting a new pair of Nike shoes,” he added.
