THE Superior Court has granted the request of the Attorney General’s Office to dismiss without prejudice the sexual abuse of a minor case against Renato Tabuena.
Dismissed without prejudice means the case can be refiled.
Tabuena, 61, was arrested on Aug. 5, 2021 after he was accused of inappropriately touching a 13-year-old girl, among other offenses.
Assistant Attorney General James A. Houston told the court that the victim and her father had requested the AG’s office not to prosecute the case.
“They have permanently left the island,” Houston added, referring to the victim and her father.
Associate Judge Teresa Kim-Tenorio granted the motion and dismissed the case without prejudice.
Tabuena was charged with sexual abuse of a minor in the third degree, indecent exposure in the second degree, and disturbing the peace.
The victim, who said she was traumatized by the incident, told police that Tabuena was their landlord.
Tabuena was represented by the Public Defender’s Office.
