Suspect allegedly pinned victim between his car and parked car

HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — A man was charged with four counts of aggravated assault in connection to a disturbance at a Yigo apartment.

On Jan. 11 at about 12:52 a.m., officers with the Guam Police Department responded to a disturbance at a Yigo apartment after a reporting person claimed someone was pouring gas into a car with people in it. While officers were en route, a second caller said he had been assaulted in the same location by Matthew Dee Paxton, court documents state.

The alleged victim said Paxton, 30, drove to the apartment to drop off Paxton’s mother, who was helping the victim with a project. The victim had a three-gallon gas container that he was going to give to Paxton, who allegedly responded, “Do you have gas? I don’t care about my mom. I don’t care about you. I don’t care about your job.”

The victim responded he could give him gas before an argument ensued.

“And as (the) victim turned away, (the) defendant struck the victim with a tire iron across the right side of his face,” the complaint stated, adding that the victim threw the gas can at Paxton’s car twice.

“At this point, (the) defendant had reentered his car and drove into the victim, causing the victim to be squeezed between the defendant’s car and another parked car,” according to the magistrate’s complaint.

Paxton then drove away, only to return a few minutes later to argue with the victim, before the two men “challenged each other to fight” until the victim backed down because of the pain caused from his injuries.

According to the complaint, Paxton admitted to assaulting the victim with a wrench and pinning him between his car and another vehicle.

Paxton was charged with aggravated assault as a second-degree felony and three counts of aggravated assault as a third-degree felony.
